Located just southwest of Yamhill County, Grand Ronde is an unincorporated community in Polk County. Its name is a French variation of the term “fine large valley”. Its main attraction is the Spirit Mountain Casino, one of nine tribal casinos in Oregon, which is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community. The tribe was restored in 1983 with the community’s roots reaching back to the tribes’ cessation of its lands to the federal government and its forced march to the Grande Ronde area in 1856.
